#GivingTuesday- save the date, Dec. 1
You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But what about Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving to support your favorite non-profits?
During these particularly tough times, the arts and culture sector has never needed your support more. Plan your giving strategy today and make sure to include The Neon Museum at the top of your list. Your generosity allows the museum to collect, preserve, study and exhibit an incredible collection of Las Vegas signs.
Neon Museum receives conservation grant for sign collection
The Neon Museum has received grants for the upkeep and preservation of the sign collection in the Neon Boneyard. As an open-air museum, the Boneyard’s collection faces challenges traditional indoor museums do not encounter. To address this matter, The Neon Museum conducted a Collections Assessment Plan (CAP) in 2018, funded in part by the Institute of Museums and Library Services (IMLS). The CAP provided valuable direction toward creating a long-term conservation treatment plan reflecting best practices for collections management and upkeep of all objects in the Museum’s permanent collection.
The project is funded in part by a $5,000 grant from the Modernism and Recent Past Fund of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and in part by a $5,000 grant from the City of Las Vegas Historic Preservation Commission through the Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial. Together, these grants will help fund a conservator to study the collection and research the optimal methods to stabilize and preserve the Museum’s priceless artifacts. To spearhead this study, the Museum has contracted Architectural Resources Group (ARG), which has offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Portland and has provided expertise in historic preservation for 40 years.
Looking for the perfect holiday gift?
Gift that special someone a personalized engraved paver on Electric Promenade for all visitors to see as they enter the Neon Boneyard. Give the gift of membership this holiday season! You’ll be on the “nice list” twice: giving your loved one’s complimentary admission to the Neon Museum for a full year AND supporting the critical preservation work of the museum!
With the passing of the CARES Act, there is currently a universal "charitable deduction" incentive for contributions made in 2020. This allows most taxpayers who do not file itemized returns to claim a one-time deduction of up to $300 for gifts made to qualifying charitable organizations. Tax rules have gone through numerous changes this year; for current information and guidance, consult a tax specialist.
