What if I do not see my desired date for a Portrait Hour or Photo Walk?
Tickets for Portrait Hours and Photo Walks are released two months in advance, but private shoots can be booked further in advance. If your desired date is not available, then you will need to book a private shoot for your specific date.
Do I need to purchase tickets for my whole group for a Portrait Hour or Photo Walk?
All members of your party, including the photographer, assistants, and other guests, must have a ticket to enter.
Does the Museum provide a photographer?
The Neon Museum does not provide a photographer, so you’ll need to bring your own. We do have a list of recommended local photographers we can share with you.
What kind of camera equipment is allowed during photo opportunities?
All photo equipment is permitted except for drones. Drones are not permitted near the Museum collection. You may bring multiple cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, tripods, gimbals, video cameras, etc.
How many other guests are in the yard during a Portrait Hour or Photo Walk?
The number of tickets is limited so you’ll have plenty of space to get the perfect shot. The Sunset Portrait Hour is capped at 15 people total including the photographers. The Late Night Portrait Hour and Photo Walk is capped at 20 people total.
Is there a dress code for photo or video shoots?
As an accredited, 501-c3 non-profit educational museum, we require that all models be fully clothed and that poses be respectful. Museum-appropriate attire is required. Attire that is not appropriate for The Neon Museum (and which may result in refusal of admittance or ejection) includes, but is not limited to, bathing suits, thongs, pasties, clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics, or clothing which exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment.
The Museum also does not allow for profanities, sexual references, firearms, or drug/alcohol references.
Can I have a photoshoot in the Main Neon Boneyard (where the signs are lit)?
The Main Neon Boneyard is not available for photoshoots while the Museum is open to the public but it is available for Private Photoshoots before the Museum opens and after the Museum closes. It is also available during Late Night Portrait Hours and Photo Walks after-hours.
Also, the North Gallery is usually available for photoshoots in the early afternoon until sunset, depending on other bookings.
Can I have a quick wedding ceremony during any of the above photo opportunities?
To have a wedding ceremony or bring an officiant please book through our Events Department. Officiants are not permitted during any of the photo opportunities.
Can I bring a camera as a just regular guest to the Museum without booking one of the above photo opportunities?
Cameras, props, and external equipment like tripods, lighting, gimbals, selfie sticks, microphones, etc. are not allowed during regular museum visits. You will need to book one of the above photo opportunities to bring a camera, props, or external phone equipment. Please see the photo policy here
What am I allowed to do with the images captured during a Portrait Hour or Photo Walk?
Images captured during Portrait Hours and Photo Walks are for personal use only. Portfolio use and social media showcasing work (not for sale), personal blogs, and home décor is permitted. The displays within The Neon Museum, a 501(c)3 non-profit, are copyrighted works and may not be filmed, photographed, or recorded for any commercial or editorial purpose (to promote any business, publications, media, or sold to a third party) without the prior written consent of The Neon Museum, Inc.
