Dazzling Descriptors (Grades K-2)

Students will learn about The Neon Museum, typography,  the history of sign design and neon, and its function in the Las Vegas community. They will then design their first initial in a style inspired by signs in the museum’s collection and decorate the border with adjectives that describe them.

Signs, Stories, & Superheroes: Creating Neon Comics (Grades 3-5)

In this lesson, students will read Green Lantern: The Light King Strikes! and analyze and discuss the characters, setting, and plot. Fabulous Float-Making: Self-Expression & Celebrating Community (Grades 3-5)

In this lesson, students will be introduced to Raul Rodriguez, designer of the Flamingo Hotel sign in 1976. They will learn about his background as a Rose Parade float designer. Students will also learn fun facts about flamingo birds and the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat. Inspired by the Flamingo Hotel sign and Raul Rodriguez, students will construct a mini-float on top of shoe boxes. Students will be challenged to create “show-stopper” designs that celebrate our community and ourselves, using accessible materials found at home.

 Paper Circuit Cards (Grades 4-8)

Students will learn about electric circuits and explore iconic Las Vegas signs and architecture. They will then create a sign-inspired greeting card using a simple circuit that lights up an LED in their design.
